In normal years, when we subtract those extra days from the number line, the birthday falls on the same day, but in a leap year there is an extra day.
Depending on the rule you choose, February twenty-ninth birthdays is treated as either February twenty-eighth or March first in common years. That changes the precise day-count; and it also alters the milestone dates that are calculated.
