💡Tile Buying Tips

The 1 to 1 shortcut: Because a 12x12 tile is exactly one square foot, you never divide by a tile size. If your room is 144 sqft, you need about 144 tiles before waste and roughly 159 tiles after a 10 percent straight-lay allowance. Keep 5 to 10 full tiles as attic stock so a future crack matches your dye lot.
Round up and buy the box: Stores sell full boxes only, so 110 sqft in boxes of 15 means 8 boxes and 120 sqft on the receipt. Buy all boxes from one lot number at once, because color and shade shift between production runs and a mid-job reorder rarely matches the tile already on your floor.

Keep in mind that regular twelve by twelve inch tiles account for a square foot per piece, which simplifies tiling math: if you’re tiling a hundred square foot space then you will need about a hundred tiles.
